CSUF Students Create a ‘Monster’ of a Disney Contest Entry

Cal State Fullerton art-illustration student Stephanie Burtner has always been a fan of Walt Disney and his many creations.

So when she, along with recent CSUF art-animation alumna Nadia Kim, were chosen as two of 20 college student finalists in the 2016 Walt Disney Imagineering Imaginations Design Competition, Burtner was elated.

“I was just absolutely thrilled and honored,” said Burtner, adding that she had previously entered the competition three times, to no avail.

Burtner, 24, and Kim, 26, met in a CSUF cartooning class; about a year and a half later, the two women reconnected via Tumblr, each becoming an admirer of the other’s artwork.

Last year, in September, the duo decided to enter the Disney competition and began working on their project.

The guidelines? Design an experience that can travel through small towns in the United States for families who have not visited a Disney park.
