Rim Grads at Carnegie Hall
Jan. 7, 2016
When the music program at Cal State Fullerton received an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall, three Rim High graduates were among the musicians who made the trip to New York.
Josh Phillips and Jeff Gumpertz played with the chamber orchestra, on clarinet and French horn respectively, and Jackson McDonald sang with the choir.
The invitation, Gumpertz said, came from Tarik O’Regan, a contemporary classical British composer. The strings and choir performed O’Regan’s “Triptych” (2005) and “Ecstasies Above” (2006, based on the lyric poem “Israfel” by Edgar Allen Poe).
The program also included Haydn’s “Sinfonia,” Bartok’s “Rumanian Dances” and “Eight Orchestral Miniatures” by Stravinsky.
