The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Club is seeking proposals for papers for the April 28 campus symposium, “Politics of Adult Literacy Education in the United States.”
Papers should relate to theory, research, policy, or pedagogy of quality adult literacy education, with a focus on successful community-based and publicly funded programs designed to assist adult ESL immigrants. The papers can focus on program type, philosophy or current issues.
Symposium keynoter is Stephen Reder, professor emeritus of applied linguistics at Portland State University. Reder is a member of the university’s Literacy Language and Technology research group and led several major projects in adult education.
Deadline to submit proposals is Monday, Feb. 15. Abstract submissions for the 15-minute papers must be one-page maximum with a nine-word maximum title, 50-word abstract and 250-word summary. They must be submitted to TESOL Club Historian Marissa Danielsen. The abstracts will be peer-reviewed and proposers will be notified of acceptance by Feb. 29.
