Letter From Chancellor White on State’s Recent Wildfires

Share This:

Dear California State University community,

Like you, my thoughts have been with the alumni, faculty, staff and students — indeed all members of the California State University family — affected by recent wildfires throughout the state.

While poor air quality affected operations at several campuses, the community surrounding Sonoma State University was hit particularly hard by fire. SSU campus leaders did a remarkable job of handling this unprecedented crisis, and I am grateful that colleagues from surrounding campuses and the Chancellor’s Office are providing additional assistance. The university plans to have many faculty and staff return to campus today (Oct. 17). I will join with them on Wednesday, Oct. 18, to help welcome, support and comfort students, faculty and staff as classes and campus operations resume.

I know that we all wonder how we can help those individuals in severe need. In that spirit, a fund has been created to help those affected by the fires. Please consider donating to the Sonoma State Fire Victims Fund.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide. To those who have already contributed —and to those from other CSU campuses who made or will make the journey to SSU to support relief efforts — please again accept my deepest gratitude.

As we have in the past, and will in the future, the California State University stands together. Let us lead the way in helping to rebuild our communities.

Sincerely,

Timothy P. White
Chancellor
