Faculty on Screen, In Residence and Before Their Peers

Wendy Grieb, assistant professor of art, was awarded a 2018 weeklong artist residency in Iceland with Light Grey Art Lab. Grieb was chosen from hundreds of applicants to join a handful of animators, visual development artists, children’s book illustrators, background painters, designers and more. 

Screenwriter and cinema and television arts lecturer Rosanne Welch moderated the Writers Guild Foundation’s Oct. 23 panel discussing “Freak, Geeks and Queen Bees: Crafting the Teen Voice for TV.” 

“Lockdown,” a feature screenplay by Micheal McAlexander, vice chair and associate professor of communications, was accepted as an official selection at the 2017 Festival Angaelica at Big Bear Lake last month and for screening during the Oct. 19-26 Orlando Film Festival.

Jason Shepard, associate professor of communications, gave a research presentation on the First Amendment and academic freedom at the 2017 Faculty Conference of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) in Dallas. The paper and presentation, “Classrooms Gone Viral: Faculty, Students and Campus Expression in a Polarized Age,” examined the role of social media, viral videos and the conservative media “outrage machine” in recent free speech controversies on college campuses. 

Dallas Stout, lecturer in child and adolescent studies, was granted “25-year-Member” status by the American Counseling Association.
