'Rising Together' Focus of Education Week for Teachers

A boot camp for future teachers, a research symposium and an alumni online conference on topics such as strategies for culturally responsive teaching and creating student-centered classrooms are among events featured during Education Week Nov. 13-16.
Presented by the College of Education, this year's theme is “Rising Together,” with free events open to the public and campus community.
Monday, Nov. 13
5 p.m. and 6 p.m. — "Online Conference," with College of Education alumni covering a wide range of topics related to education during the sessions. Alumna Vanessa Acuña, '02 '03 '07 (B.A. liberal studies, multiple subject credential, M.S. education-educational leadership), president of CSUF's Alumni Association Board of Directors and a second-grade teacher in East Whittier City School District, will give the welcome address at 4:50 p.m. Visit online for access and list of presenters and topics.
Tuesday, Nov. 14
4:30–7:30 p.m. — "From Research to Practice: Responding to Educational Challenges Through Engaged Research" research symposium and poster presentations, featuring the work of doctoral, graduate and credential students, and an Ed.D. alumni panel, Titan Student Union Portola Pavilion. Reception to follow.
Wednesday, Nov. 15
12:30-1:30 p.m. — "Writing in the Teaching Profession” workshop, offering writing tips for notes home, to letters to administrators and emails to colleagues, Pollak Library, Room 403.
5-8 p.m. — "Future Teacher Boot Camp," with activities such as preparing for teacher credential programs, becoming a substitute teacher and a student panel discussion, Titan Student Union Portola Pavilion.
6 p.m. — "Future Teacher Boot Camp" keynote address by CSUF alumnus and technology teacher Enrique G. Legaspi '03 (B.A. business administration-finance) on "Teachers of Tomorrow — Cognitive Flexibility and Emotional Intelligence." He teaches at Diego Rivera Learning Complex, Communication and Technology School, in Los Angeles.
Thursday, Nov. 16
11 a.m.-1 p.m. — "Future Teacher Festival and Club Resource Fair," with information about credential programs, services and resources, Titan Walk, between Pollak Library and Titan Student Union.
