‘Corn Man’: A Mexican-Inspired Animistic Sculpture Arrives in Santa Ana and Los Angeles

With the help of CSUF art student Alejandro Olivares and the Grand Central Art Center, “Corn Man,” a life-sized mannequin thoroughly coated in dried corn kernels, was assembled this fall in Santa Ana and scheduled for performances there and other U.S. cities.
After its Los Angeles exhibition, it will travel to Chicago, San Francisco, the Phoenix area and on to Latin America, with a scheduled return to Santa Ana in 2019.
“Corn Man” is a proxy of the original Señor del Maíz, who was built by artist Alfadir Luna of Mexico City in 2006 in Mexico City’s “La Merced” downtown public market. Continue reading on KCET.
