Lord-Ess of the Flies

Parvin Shahrestani, assistant professor of biological science, is studying fruit flies to understand how humans age and how the immune systems works. She notes that fruit flies and humans share a lot of genes in common. At CSUF, she is leading a research team that studies evolution, genetics, aging and immune defense.
Sharestani moved to the United States from Iran in 1996. Despite experiencing a cycle of “broken-up education” in Iran and not speaking any English prior to her arrival in the U.S., she graduated as a first-generation college student from UCI. Although Shahrestani had various educational interests, a general biology course led her to pursue a career in biology. Continue reading in the Fullerton Observer.
