In Memoriam — M’Lou Dietzer

M’Lou Dietzer, professor emeritus of music, died April 9.

Dietzer began her career at Cal State Fullerton in 1972, serving as coordinator of keyboard studies, and retired from the CSUF music faculty in 1997. She held a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of Southern California, with secondary specialization in music analysis and counterpoint.

Besides being a noted performer who specialized in the piano music of Claude Debussy, Dietzer served as adjudicator, clinician and masterclass teacher for various musical organizations, including the Music Teachers Association of California on which she served on the board. She also served as piano editor for California Music Teacher Magazine and was the author of “First Impressions,” an intermediate-level piano method, and “Discovering Piano Literature.”
