Single-Payer Health Care for California Takes the Next Step

In an attempt to create a state-run health care system with legislation known as the Healthy California Act, the next step is the state Senate Appropriations Committee, which will determine whether Senate Bill 562 will move forward.
“If it doesn’t go through appropriations, it dies,” said Shana Alex Charles, CSUF assistant professor of health science.
The bill would create a trust fund, where federal health care dollars would go to help pay for the program, but a detailed plan of the fund’s other sources of revenue is not included.
