Election of Student Leader Buoys Hopes of Muslim Community

Laila Dadabhoy, an Indian/Fijian Muslim student, was elected to be CSUF’s student body president for the coming school year.

Dadabhoy, who volunteers for two nonprofits based in Anaheim: the Council on American-Islamic Relations for the Los Angeles (CAIR-LA) area and Uplift Charity, a nonprofit that helps underprivileged Muslims in California, emphasizes that she will represent all students as ASI president and listen to their opinions.

The local Muslim community is proud that one of its members will helm the student government of a major university, said Ojaala Ahmad, communications coordinator for the CAIR-LA.
