Titans Go Off Road in Baja Collegiate Competition

After dedicating over 2,000 student hours to design, build and test this year’s Baja vehicle, the Titan racing team is ready to hit the dirt in this weekend’s off-road collegiate competition.

The team is set to compete in the 2017 Baja SAE California April 27-30, in Gorman, north of Pyramid Lake. Over 100 college student teams are expected to race.

The team’s goal was to design, build, test and compete with a vehicle that is fast, reliable and marketable to the casual off-roader, said operations team captain Joel Amposta.

“Most of all, we’re building on the upwards momentum established by the last two campus teams in 2015 and 2016, and we’re going for something unprecedented: To become a top 25 team in the West,” added Amposta, a graduating senior and mechanical engineering major. Last year’s CSUF team finished 33rd.

The Titan Racing Baja team is made up of over 30 students of all class levels and ranging in majors, including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and business. Joseph Piacenza, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, is the team’s faculty adviser.
