Titan Voice: Firefighter-Turned-Scholar Studies Science of Wildfires

Relaxing at the beach, a very comfortable 72 degrees, and taking a dip into the salty waters of the Pacific Ocean was a good way to end a busy week. Waiting for my train to arrive to return home, I reflected on the time I’d just spent in Santa Barbara.

A former firefighter, I had been accepted to attend the Strategic Environmental Research Initiative Fire Summer Seminar at the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at UC Santa Barbara.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined meeting five complete strangers and collaborating so beautifully, after studying together for one intensive and fulfilling week.
