Founding Titans Reminisce About Cal State Fullerton’s Early Days

Founding Titans who were on campus during the first 10 years of its operation returned for Convocation 2017 to reconnect, reflect and reminisce about their shared experieces, during the launch of CSUF’s 60th anniversary celebration.

Isabelle Jambon Hlavac, Class of 1962 and a charter member of the sorority Zeta Phi Lambda, shared that “there was a sense of not so much being the first as just being family.” Hlavac remembers classes of 25 students in which it was easy to get to know the professors and added, “when we had parties, the professors would come.”

The biggest first that the Founding Titans remembered was the nation’s “First Intercollegiate Elephant Race in Human History,” an event that put Cal State Fullerton on the national map in 1962. Continue reading in the Orange County Register.
