Alison Dover: Incorporating Multiculturalism and Social Justice in the Classroom

With a passion to encourage teachers to embrace their responsiblility to prepare all students to be educated and engaged community members, CSUF's Alison Dover, points to research indicating that “teaching for social justice is associated with positive academic and social-emotional outcomes.” 

In the College of Education, where Dover serves as an assistant professor of secondary education, a social justice empasis has been added to the curriculum.

"It's all about appreciating diversity,” she says. "My hope is the more we can prepare teachers to really work effectively with diverse students, and that if we prepare our students to advocate for themselves and others, we will see that positive change.” Continue reading in the Orange County Register.
