Jewel Plummer Cobb

Jewel Plummer Cobb, the third president of Cal State Fullerton, died on New Year’s Day, the university announced Tuesday. She was 92.

Cobb served as the university’s president from October 1981 to August 1990 and was remembered for her work expanding the campus.

Recognized as the first African American women to lead a major university west of the Mississippi, she was known nationwide for her research accomplishments and her advocacy for equal access to education and professional opportunities for women and minorities.
