Berenecea Johnson Eanes: CSUF Focuses on Graduation Initiative 2025

If it takes a village to raise a child, as the timeless saying goes, imagine the concerted effort required to nurture a village made up of more than 40,000.
As a parent/guardian, like many of you, I value the importance of community support systems. I have been fortunate to be surrounded by educators, coaches and friends who have graciously acted to help meet the individual needs of my two children. While I am deeply thankful for the personal investment that others have made in my children, occasionally I wonder in what manner they will be supported a decade from now.
More often, though, I think about my civic duty as an educator in the present. Serving as vice president for the Division of Student Affairs at California State University, Fullerton, it is my responsibility to help advance higher education practices so that current and future students will be supported. I am also responsible for a staff that finds innovative ways to help students persist to graduation. Fortunately, supporting students is a collaborative effort that stretches to higher levels.
