CSUF Film Student Wins "Best in Show"

Gibran Rubio, a senior cinema and television arts major at CSUF, took home the top honors at the CSU Media Arts Festival held recently at Cal State Los Angeles. Rubio's project was among 28 films selected as finalists with his 18-minute film titled “Möbius,” recognized as the "Best in Show."

Möbius follows the recollections of an old man, and is told in three parts. The first part shows the man as a young boy, playing at a seashore. In the second part, the boy — now a young man — revisits the seashore, and writes a story. In the final part, the old man reads the story.

Rubio said Möbius was inspired by “The Prophet,” a collection of poems written by Lebanese poet Khalil Gibran. Rubio's mother named him after the poet, whose work she admired. Continue reading in the Orange County Register.
