Campus Announces Recent Appointments

Fall and recent appointments include the naming of the permanent dean for the College of Engineering and Computer Science and the two-year appointment for the dean of Mihaylo College of Business and Economics.

After a national search, Susamma Barua was appointed College of Engineering and Computer Science dean in June. She has served as interim dean since July 2016 and previously was associate dean since August 2008. 

Morteza Rahmatian was appointed dean of Mihaylo College of Business and Economics for a two-year term, effective July 1. A former associate dean of the college, he had been serving as interim dean since July 2016. 

Brent Foster was appointed assistant vice president for undergraduate studies and general education, effective July 1. He previously served as interim director of undergraduate studies and general education.

Jaime Sheehan, who had been serving as interim director, was named director of Counseling and Psychological Services in June. 

Mark Hoven Stohs, professor of finance, was elected chair of the Academic Senate May 17.

Vincent Vigil was appointed interim director of Diversity Initiatives and Resource Centers in June, while Tony Pang assumed the role of interim director of Student Life and Leadership.

Fall Chair Appointments

Jack Bedell was named to a three-year term as chair of electrical engineering. 
Jon Bruschke was named to a three-year term as chair of human communication studies.
Cynthia Gautreau has been appointed to a one-year term as acting chair of educational leadership.
Matthew Jarvis begins a three-year term as chair of the Division of Politics, Administration and Justice.
Karyl Ketchum is acting chair of women and gender studies for a one-year term.
Jeffrey Knott will serve a one-year term as chair of geological sciences.
Phoolendra Mishra was named to a three-year term as chair of civil and environmental engineering.
Katherine Powers was named acting director of the School of Music for a one-semester term, effective July 1.
Christopher Ryu was appointed to a three-year term as chair of computer science.
Jessica Stern was appointed to a one-year term as acting chair of history.
Michele Wood was appointed to a three-year term as chair of public health.
