Meet a Titan From the Deep — Titanotaria Orangensis


Geology alumnus,  Isaac Magallenes and Cal State Fullerton associate professor of geological science, James Parham, have described a new genus and species of walrus that made its home in the ancient waters once covering much of Orange County.

In  their research paper, “A New Tuskless Walrus from the Miocene of Orange County, California, with Comments on the Diversity and Taxonomy of Odobenids,” Magallenes and Parham named the extinct tuskless walrus, “Titanotaria organesis,” in honor of the university's Titan mascot and Orange County.
