Cal State Fullerton has taken the next steps in its three-year commitment to the Partnership for a Healthier America’s Healthier Campus Initiative, a national effort to help college and university campuses become healthier places to work and study.

As part of this effort, the university is sponsoring a Healthy Campus Week featuring programs and activities to encourage members of the campus community to live, work and study more healthfully.

Since the campus joined the partnership, 23 strategic guidelines have been identified, with a focus on healthier foods and beverages served on campus, providing an environment that encourages physical activity and movement, and programming that encourages campus members to participate in programs and activities for healthier living.

“Many of these are already being addressed on campus, like offering healthier choices in our campus food venues and offering up fitness programs through the Student Recreation Center and the Employee Wellness Program,” says Laura Chandler, assistant professor of public health. “Others are efforts we will be developing throughout our commitment to the partnership.

“As part of our effort, we have established a Wellness Council, composed of faculty, staff, students and administrators from throughout the campus, and are partnering with St. Jude Medical Center,” Chandler added.
