Titan Voice: A Lesson in Connecting to CSUF - Dive In

After my parents’ divorce, I wasn’t sure if college was for me. My mother never graduated and my father never attended college, so I knew my path to and through higher education would be riddled with equal parts mystery and obstacles. Despite my trepidations, I was set to attend Prairie View A&M University, a historically black university near Houston, Texas, but when my mother was suddenly laid off, my path shifted to Fullerton College.

Convinced that college was all about the destination of a degree rather than the journey of higher education, I didn’t get involved, seek out new friends, or even look for ways to grow beyond the required academics. That is, until my best friend, who was attending Cal State Fullerton at the time, began inviting me to CSUF Black Student Union events.
