In Memoriam — Ann Camp

Ann Camp, former chief of staff for Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Dominguez Hills President Mildred García, has died.

Camp served at Cal State Dominguez Hills for five years, becoming Garcia’s executive assistant in 2000. Camp followed García when she became CSUF’s new president in June 2012, serving for an additional five years before retiring in 2017.

The chief of staff came to academia as an arts educator and fundraiser at Orange County and Texas museums prior to landing a position in fundraising at the Dominguez Hills campus. She eventually became executive director for development, focusing her energies on grant writing to private foundations and corporations, and worked closely with the president. In 2010, Camp joined the President’s Office as a member of the senior management team.

President García announced Camp’s retirement in an August 2017 address to the Academic Senate. “Over 10 years, across two institutions, and through thousands of student success stories, Ann always had my back and continuously pushed me forward,” García said of her longtime colleague and friend. “She reflects what this university is and always should be: a warm and welcoming academic environment where love and laughter are as important as hard work and results.”

Camp is survived by her son Christopher Camp; granddaughter Ramona Camp; mother Norma Cordell; siblings John Cordell, Amy Cordell and Susan Marr; goddaughter Olivia Craig; and lifelong friends Linda and Tony Uphoff.
