Cal State Fullerton held steady, ranking No. 1 in the state and No. 3 in the nation for awarding bachelor’s degrees to underrepresented students, according to Diverse: Issues in Higher Education’s “Top 100 Degree Producers” list, published in October 2021.

Underrepresented students at CSUF are overwhelmingly Latinx (95%). In fact, of the university’s overall student body of more than 41,000, 47.3% identify as Latinx.

Perhaps not surprisingly then, CSUF ranks No. 3 in the U.S. on Diverse magazine’s list for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to Hispanics as well.

Hispanic Outlook on Education’s 2021 “Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Hispanics” list — also published in October — came to the same conclusion. CSUF captured their No. 3 spot nationally for awarding bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics, up one spot from 2020.

CSUF, a U.S. Department of Education-designated Hispanic-Serving Institution recently recognized with the Seal of Excelencia for its work in advancing Latinx student success, ranks No. 19 in the nation for overall Hispanic enrollment among four-year schools.

In addition, the campus has top ten status nationally for Hispanic enrollment in several degree areas:

No. 3 in in communication, journalism and related programs

No. 3 in parks, recreation, leisure and fitness studies

No. 6 in education

No. 7 in business (and No. 1 in California)

No. 8 in visual arts and performing arts

Both Diverse: Issues in Higher Education and Hispanic Outlook on Education generate their annual ranking lists using data from the U.S. Department of Education.
