Arts Week Sparks Creative Spirit

Pop-up shops, pot-glazing workshops and guest speakers are among the many activities in store April 10-15 during Arts Week 2016 with a full program of events  showcasing all disciplines of the College of the Arts.

Arts Week kicks off with a 1 p.m. watercolor exhibition Sunday, April 10 at the Fullerton Arboretum. Lawrence Yun, professor of art, will showcase his students’ Arboretum-inspired paintings as the Fullerton Latin Ensemble plays. Other highlights include:

Monday, April 11
Pizza with the Dean
Noon-1:30 p.m.
Visual Arts Quad
Dean Dale Merrill shares pizza and quality time with students to address questions and comments about the College of the Arts.

“#MoneyM@tter$”
5-6 p.m.
Hallberg Theater, Clayes Performing Arts Center
Hosted by the Financial Literacy Program
The University’s Financial Literacy Program hosts “#MoneyM@tter$,” a 35-minute, student-performed musical that highlights monetary challenges and tips toward financial wellness. Also playing at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 and at 4 p.m. Friday, April 15.

Treat Yourself
Noon-3 p.m.
Promenade between Clayes Performing Arts Center and Visual Arts Center
Students can get free headshots and have an industry professional and a College of the Arts career specialist review their resumes and portfolios, then treat themselves to a massage and puppy therapy.

Wednesday, April 13
Trio Ellas
Noon-1 p.m.
Central Quad
Hear the unique sounds of the Grammy-nominated group Trio Ellas.

Sand Casting and Hot Glass Demo
4-6:15 p.m.
VA-103B (lecture)
VA-130 (demonstration)
Artist Greg Price offers insight and a demo on hot glass working and sand casting, followed by open participation of the latter.

Friday, April 15
Ice Cream Social
12-2 p.m.
Visual Arts Quad
Help paint the College of the Arts’ ice cream sculpture as we celebrate the end of another fun Arts Week at the annual Ice Cream Social.
