Doping Expert Appointed to USA Cycling Advisory Committee

John Gleaves, associate professor of kinesiology, a doping research expert with a focus on ethics and cycling, was appointed April 18 to the USA Cycling team’s new advisory Anti-Doping Committee.
Gleaves, co-director of CSUF’s Center for Sociocultural Sport and Olympic Research, is one of eight experts appointed to the committee that will evaluate the team’s anti-doping efforts and determine the best testing and cost effective and credible deterrents. He has authored several books including A Global History of Doping in Sport: Drugs, Policy and Politics and The 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games: Assessing the 30-Year Legacy. His book, co-authored with the center co-directory Matthew Llewellyn, The Rise and Fall of Olympic Amateurism, is due out in August.
