“Politics of Adult Literacy Education in the United States” is the focus of a Thursday, April 28, public symposium sponsored by Cal State Fullerton’s Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Program and the campus TESOL Club.

The keynote speaker for the 1:30-8:30 p.m. program will be Stephen Reder, professor emeritus of applied linguistics from Portland State University. Reder conducted a longitudinal study of adult learning as part of the National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy. Reder will speak at 7 p.m.

The program, in Room 3230 of Mihaylo Hall, will include presentations on “Educating Adult Immigrants in Orange County: From Literacy to Citizenship,” as well as issues and plans for the future.
