Enjoy art, gardening, yoga and culinary classes this spring at the Fullerton Arboretum. All events are held at 1900 Associated Road, Fullerton, 92831, with proceeds benefiting the botanical garden’s education programs.
March 4 — Composting with Worms
Miguel Macias, education program manager for the Arboretum, demonstrates how to create a rich garden soil by introducing worms into a home composting system at this 10-11:30 a.m. event. Registration is $7 for members and $10 for non-members.
March 9 — Springtime Menu: Bright and Clean Flavors
Learn how to make a simple spring dinner at this 6-9 p.m. event, presented by Jonathan Dye and Jonathan Duffy Davis. The menu includes goat cheese and crème fraiche crostini, carrot ginger soup, spring greens with lemon vinaigrette, braised mustard chicken with pappardelle and lemon curd with scented lavender cream. Registration is $80 for members and $90 for non-members.
March 12 — The Plants of Disneyland: Jungle Cruise
David John Marley, CSUF history and honors program lecturer, shares how Disneyland created the unique look of the Jungle Cruise at this 2-3:30 p.m. program. Registration is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. The fee includes a signed copy of Marley’s book, “Skipper Stories: True Tales From Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise.”
March 25 — I Left My Heart in San Francisco, Olive Oil Tasting
Join Chefs Debbi Dubbs and Louise Mellor for an 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. garden meal. The menu includes homemade herbed ricotta with lemon, parmesan and blistered tomatoes served on sourdough crostini, San Franciscan-style cioppino with fresh seafood in a rich tomato-white wine broth, and blood orange olive oil cake with whipped grand marnier mascarpone. Registration is $80 for members and $90 for non-members.
April 1 — Hypertufa
Hypertufa is a fun process for creating instant antiquities for the garden. Landscape designer Steve Gerischer demonstrates how to make a small bowl or trough at this 10 a.m. to noon event. Registration is $30 for members and $35 for non-members.
April 13 — Easter: A Complete Menu for Entertaining
Jonathan Dye and Jonathan Duffy Davis demonstrate how to prepare an Easter meal for family and friends. The menu for the 6-9 p.m. event includes savory rosemary gougéres, salad of frisée with lardons, roast loin of pork with apples and sage-madeira gravy, fennel gratin, maple glazed carrots and poached pear tarts with vanilla cream. Registration is $80 for members and $90 for non-members.
April 27 — Full Body Red Wines From Around the World
Chef Laurent Brazier presents a wine and food pairing class featuring red wines from around the world. The menu for the 6-9 p.m. event includes sausage jambalaya; fresh fettuccini tossed in a tomato-basil sauce; roasted leg of lamb with garlic, herbs and haricot vert; skirt steak fajitas, black bean puree and pico de gallo; and dark chocolate tart with fresh raspberry sauce. Registration is $80 for members and $90 for non-members.
April 29 — Notebook of Desert Wildflowers
Tania Marien demonstrates how to begin a wildflower notebook while sketching in the Arboretum’s Desert Collection at this 1-4 p.m. event. Registration is $50 for members and $60 for non-members and includes selected art supplies.
Ongoing — Yoga in the Garden
Join the Arboretum for yoga in the garden every Saturday morning from 9-10:30 a.m. Improve connection of the body, mind and breath by taking in the sounds and sights of nature. Registration is $13 for members and $15 for non-members.
