Winter Wonder at the Arboretum

Ring in the new year with a variety of educational programs and activities offered by the Fullerton Arboretum. All events are held at 1900 Associated Rd., Fullerton, 92831, with proceeds benefiting the botanical garden’s education programs.

Jan. 21 — Rose Pruning

Landscape designer Steve Gerischer will give tips on how to take care of a rose garden at this 10 a.m. to noon event. Registration is $35 for members or TitanCard holders and $40 for non-members.

Jan. 21 — ‘What’s In Your Pantry’ Book Signing

Come meet Chef Debbi Dubbs and take home a signed copy of her book, “What’s In Your Pantry.” She will prepare a “pantry” soup, minestrone and Italian puff pastry roll to taste. The 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. event costs $20 for members or TitanCard holders and $25 for non-members.

Jan. 28 — Nature Photography

Photographer Steve Kaye will show how to use space, light and time to take memorable photos. The 1-4 p.m. event is open to beginning through advanced photographers. Registration is $25 for members or TitanCard holders and $30 for non-members.

Feb. 4 — Basics of Home Composting

The Arboretum’s education program manager, Miguel Macias, will demonstrate how to begin a home composting system to divert waste from overfilling landfills. The 10-11:30 a.m. event costs $7 for members or TitanCard holders and $10 for non-members.

Feb. 9 — Valentine’s Day Dinner

Enjoy a special dinner for two, prepared by Jonathan Dye and Jonathan Duffy Davis. The menu for the 6-9 p.m. event includes buckwheat blini with smoked salmon and crème fraiche, tableside Caesar salad with torn garlic croutons, duck fat oven-roasted potatoes, steak Diane and salted caramel chocolate mousse. Registration is $80 for members or TitanCard holders and $90 for non-members.

Feb. 11 — Cupid in the Kitchen, Chocolate Tasting

Chefs Debbi Dubbs and Louise Mellor will share how to entertain with simplicity and style this Valentine’s Day. The menu for the 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. event includes roasted spring asparagus salad with Meyer lemon vinaigrette, elegant beef Wellington, puff pastry tarts with caramelized onions, Maytag blue cheese and sautéed mushrooms, and dark chocolate hazelnut flourless cake with vanilla bean ice cream and fresh berries. Registration is $80 for members or TitanCard holders and $90 for non-members.

Feb. 18 — Medicinal and Edible Plants

Join herbalist William Broen for a morning of exploration in the Arboretum, as he illuminates the many medicinal, nutritious and other uses of California native plants. During the 9-10:30 a.m. event, Broen will discuss elderberry, white sage, yerba santa, manzanita, live oak and stinging nettles, among other plant species. Registration is $35 for members or TitanCard holders and $40 for non-members.

Ongoing — Yoga in the Garden

Join the Arboretum for yoga in the garden every Saturday morning from 9-10:30 a.m. Improve connection of the body, mind and breath by immersing yourself in the sounds and sights of nature. Registration is $13 for members or TitanCard holders and $15 for non-members.
