In Memoriam – Dwight Richard Odle

Dwight Richard Odle, a College of the Arts theater professor from 1967 to 1980, died July 20.

Odle became a longtime member of the MAMM Alliance for the Performing Arts, sharing his creativity and expertise to produce many events. He endowed the Clayes Performing Arts box office, which now bears his name.

Over his long career as a theater professional, he designed scenery and costumes for hundreds of theater and entertainment productions, including performances at South Coast Repertory, a Super Bowl Halftime Show and even Pope John Paul II’s mass at Dodger Stadium in 1987. Odle, who earned an M.F.A. in theatrical design from the Yale School of Drama, was honored for lifetime achievement by Arts Orange County and the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle.

A celebration of Odle’s life will take place Saturday, Oct. 13, at 4 p.m. in the Clayes Performing Arts Center’s Young Theatre.
