Mihaylo College Announces Center Changes

Share This:

The Center for Insurance Studies in Mihaylo College of Business and Economics was recently renamed the School of Risk Management and Insurance.

Weili Lu, professor of finance and center director, explains that the new moniker will allow the school to expand its reach and offerings, place more students in risk management and insurance — an industry in serious need of workers — and provide opportunities for multidisciplinary research.

“It will take our organization up to another level,” she concludes.

At the same time, Cal State Fullerton’s Decision Research Center, which examines human decision making and judgment, will transfer from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences to Mihaylo, effective June 1, 2020.

Daniel Cavagnaro, the center’s new director and lecturer in information systems and decision sciences, believes that it makes sense to have the center at Mihaylo.

“Decision research aims to enhance individual, group and societal decision making in support of a better future. Mihaylo already features a world-class array of expert strength in decision research, spread across different departments. Housing the center here has the potential to leverage untapped synergies and interdisciplinary collaborations that will further enhance the university’s ability to be a hub for comprehensive scholarly expertise in decision research.”
