Money magazine went in search of the key factors that make a university one of the nation’s best colleges, and in this month’s’ 2019 Best Colleges ranking, reported that Cal State Fullerton has what it takes.

Quality of education, affordability and outcomes, were among the factors that led to CSUF coming in the top 3 percent of colleges in the publications ranking: 22nd out of 744 universities across the country and a huge uptick from CSUF’s 2018 ranking of 84th.

Even better, the university tied for 14th place on the list of Best Public Colleges and 17th for Most Transformative colleges.

Money’s rankings were calculated using quality of education, affordability and outcomes — graduates’ earnings, as well as the institution’s standing on the College Scorecard employment outcomes and Opportunity Insight’s socio-economic mobility index.

Last year, Cal State Fullerton was listed 4th in the nation for the awarding of baccalaureate degrees to underrepresented students — a position that it has carried for a number of years — in Diverse Issues in Higher Education. The institution also was ranked No. 6 for lowest net price and in the top third of national universities in Washington Monthly’s 2018 College Guide and Rankings.
