University Celebrates Academic Milestone of Commencement

Cal State Fullerton continues all the ‘pomp and circumstance’ of commencement while bringing a streamlined approach to ceremonies this year by eliminating the University Ceremony and focusing on college and department ceremonies.

“Our focus, as always, is on creating a deeply moving and celebratory ceremony for our students, their families and friends,” said Andrea Kelligrew, director of university events. “As our student population has grown, so has the number of those eligible to graduate and wishing to participate. Hence, the university has sought out ways to maximize the use of existing venues and offer graduates as many tickets as possible.”

Historically, the university has strived to keep commencement on campus, the location where students have achieved their academic successes. For most of CSUF’s history, the annual festivities have included multiple ceremonies but only since 1999 has the ceremonies used more than one physical location.

The 2019 three-day program will feature ceremonies on four sites: Titan Stadium, the Intramural Field, Titan Gymnasium and the Engineering and Computer Science Lawn. Every ceremony will feature a processional, the reading of student names and conferral of degrees.

Tickets for guest admissions are required, as well as special commencement 2019 parking permits for on-campus parking. Carpooling is recommended.

Ceremonies will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 17, and 9-11 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19, as outlined in the schedule below:
