Per a joint announcement from the CSU and UC systems today, faculty, staff and students returning to any CSU or UC campus this fall, including Cal State Fullerton, will be required to have received a COVID-19 vaccination. This requirement will be contingent upon full approval of one or more vaccines by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, as well as adequate availability of the fully approved vaccines.
“For more than a year, we at Cal State Fullerton have continually and successfully pivoted to serve our twin pandemic touchstones — protecting the health and safety of all Titans and their families, and upholding academic excellence with unimpeded paths to degree,” said President Fram Virjee. “Given the current recommendations from local, state, and national health agencies, it is clear that this decision serves both of those North Stars and assures the safest route for a return to campus and the vibrant, enriching, and high-impact educational community that is more easily and effectively provided with in-person options.”
The COVID-19 vaccination requirement would allow for students or employees to seek an exemption based on medical or religious grounds. Prior to the implementation of any changes to the CSU’s existing immunization requirements, the CSU will engage the California State Student Association, the CSU Academic Senate and labor unions.
