Emily Bonney, associate professor of liberal studies, is the newly elected chair of the University’s Academic Senate for 2015-16.
The former vice chair of the faculty governing body — and this year’s recipient of the Faculty Leadership in Collegial Governance Award — took the gavel of office from 2014-15 chair Sean Walker during the Thursday, May 14, meeting, telling him; “Following you will be a tough act.”
The Long Beach resident has served on the senate since 2011, serving as an officer on its executive committee since 2012. She joined the campus in 1995 and has served on a wide range of department, college and campuswide committees.
Also elected to serve on the 2015-16 board are: William D. “Bill” Meyer of Fullerton, professor of theatre and dance, vice chair; and alumna Merri Lynn Casem ’84 (B.A. biological science) of Riverside, professor of biological science, secretary. Alumnus Amir Dabirian ’85, ’88 (B.S. engineering-electrical, M.S. engineering-electrical) of Orange, vice president for information technology and chief information officer, was re-elected treasurer.
Members-at-large are: Kristin K. Stang of Buena Park, professor of special education and director of the Faculty Development Center; Lynn Sargeant of La Habra, professor of history and interim associate dean, student relations, in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; and Ronald E. Oliver of Fullerton, professor of education.
Serving on the statewide Academic Senate are alumna Diana W. Guerin ’80 (M.A. psychology) of Fullerton, professor of child and adolescent studies, Sean Walker of Fullerton, associate professor of biological science, and Mark Stohs of Yorba Linda, professor of finance.
The Academic Senate develops, formulates and reviews educational and professional policy that becomes university policy if approved by the CSUF president. Besides faculty members, its membership includes administrators, two representatives from Associated Students Inc. and two staff members.
