More than 150 third through fifth grade students are learning about the ocean through visual art, music, dance and technology — and also improving their skills in English — at an arts- and science-integrated summer camp at Melrose Elementary School.
Cal State Fullerton’s SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union Center for Creativity and Critical Thinking is collaborating with Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District and Segerstrom Center for the Arts to present the July 13-24 camp.
CSUF teacher candidates, together with school district teachers and a dance educator from Segerstrom Center, are teaching the “Fun in the Sun and Under the Sea” program at the Placentia school.
Andrea M. Guillaume and Ginger Geftakys, elementary and bilingual education faculty members and the center’s program coordinators, developed the curriculum, presented a professional development session for the teachers, and are providing support at the camp.
