What does it take to be the administrative manager of a city? Master of public administration students Cesar Pacheco, Alyssa Helper, Jennifer Lowe and Mario Espindola will find out as they spend the year being mentored by local officials as part of the City Management Fellowship Program.
Shelly Arsneault, professor of political science, created the City Management Fellowship Program in 2012 to pair Cal State Fullerton M.P.A. students with Orange County city managers so the students have the opportunity to learn firsthand how tough decisions are made by public-sector executives, ask questions and experience what it is like to be in public service.
This year’s participating managers are Jim Vanderpool, city manager of Buena Park; Ken Domer, assistant city manager of Huntington Beach; Maria Stipe ’96 (M.P.A.), deputy city manager of Garden Grove; and Dan Ferons, general manager of the Santa Margarita Water District.
