Art, Oysters, Leadership and Assassins Subject of Upcoming Talks

Five Cal State Fullerton faculty and staff members will be discussing a wide range of subjects in upcoming talks locally, regionally and across the nation.

Danielle C. Zacherl, professor of biological science, will present “If We Make Their Bed, They’ll Lie In It: Restoration of Native Olympia Oysters in Southern California” 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro. Zacherl will share her recent study on the effectiveness of restoration techniques on increasing local oyster density in Newport Bay.  

Bryan Cantley, professor of art, will be giving lectures titled “Synthetic Contexts” at the Los Angeles Institute of Architecture and Design Oct. 8 and the School of Architecture at the University of South Florida Oct. 13. Cantley also will have a solo exhibition opening Nov. 18 at the Christopher Mont Gallery in West Hollywood.

Roy Gonzales, human resources and organizational development manager in facilities operations and management, and Terri Thompson, custodial services manager, are presenting “Putting Leadership Concepts Into Practice” at the Oct. 11-13 annual conference of the Pacific Coast Region of APPA: Leadership in Educational Facilities, hosted by Oregon State University in Portland.

Gayle K. Brunelle, professor of history, will discuss “A Gang of Assassins in 1941 France” at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Fullerton Public Library as part of its Town & Gown Series. The talk will focus on the July 26, 1941, killing of former French Interior Minister Marx Dormoy then expand to a broader discussion of assassins and their motivations. Brunelle also will be discussing “Making Sense of the Sixteenth Century in the French Atlantic World” at the Mohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture’s Oct. 16-18 conference, “Emerging Histories of the Early Modern French Atlantic,” in Williamsburg, Va.
