Faculty Travel to Make Presentations This Month

Computer science faculty members Shawn X. Wang, professor, and Abhishek Verma, assistant professor, and graduate student Hussein Al-Barazanchi, will present their paper “Performance Evaluation of Hybrid CNN for SIPPER Plankton Image Classification” at the Dec. 21-24 Third International Conference on Image Information Processing at Jaypee University of Information Technology in India. The biennial program is sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

In July, the trio also delivered “Plankton Image Classification Using Convolutional Neural Networks” at the 19th International Conference on Image Processing, Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, part of the 2015 World Congress in Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Applied Computing, in Las Vegas.

Michele M. Wood, associate professor of health science, will co-present “Scientific Communication for Positive Action: Do’s and Don’ts” and “Risk Reduction in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal: Theory-Based Mass-Media Intervention Proven to Increase Knowledge of, Belief in and Intent to Support Earthquake-Resistant Construction” at the American Geophysical Union fall meeting Dec. 14-18 in San Francisco.

Lilia Espinoza, assistant professor of health science, will present the co-authored poster “Barriers and Facilitators to Care Upon Release for Formerly Incarcerated Individuals Living With HIV in Los Angeles” at the Dec. 6-9 National HIV Prevention Conference in Atlanta, GA.
