Health Science Research Subject of Faculty, Student Presentations

Jennifer Piazza, assistant professor of health science, is co-author of “Applying Predictions About Age and Emotional Experience to People With Functional Disabilities,” which will be presented at the Nov. 18-22 Gerontological Society of America meeting in Orlando.

Other presentations by health science faculty members and students were delivered at recent professional meetings and conferences.

At the Oct. 31-Nov. 4 American Public Health Association annual meeting and exposition in Chicago:

  • John D. Beskey, assistant professor of health science, presented “Environmental Justice Youth Training Program: Increasing Community Capacity Through a High School Extracurricular Module.”
  • Anthony DiStefano, associate professor of health science, co-presented “Current Use and Perceptions of HIV Post-Exposure Prophylaxis and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis in Japan.”
  • Master of public health major Harold Custodio and Sora Tanjasiri, chair and professor of health science, are among co-authors of “Biospecimen Education in Pacific Islander Communities: A Weaving and Islander Network for Cancer Awareness, Research and Training (WINCART) Center Study.”
  • Alumna Angela Gutierrez ‘15 (M.P.H.); Lilia Espinoza, assistant professor of health science; Dana N. Rutledge, professor of nursing; and C. Jessie Jones, interim dean of the College of Health and Human Development, co-authored the poster presentation “Examination of a Chronic Disease Self-Management Curriculum and Self-Efficacy Among Latino Adults.”
  • Sora Tanjasiri, chair and professor of health science; Michele Mouttapa, associate professor of health science; and Jie W. Weiss, professor of health science, are among co-authors of “Supporting Our Women: Pacific Islander Pap Testing Project.”
  • Maria Koleilat, assistant professor of health science, co-delivered the poster “Impact of the WIC Food Package Change: A Literature Review”; “Impact of Policy Changes on Gestational Weight Gain Among Low-Income Pregnant Women Participating in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)”; and “Examination of the Recent Revisions to the WIC Food Packages on Early Childhood Obesity: Potential for Mediation Through Breastfeeding and Gestational Weight Gain.”
  • Joshua Yang, associate professor of health science, presented “Economic Growth and Human Development: The View From the World Trade Organization’s ‘World Trade Report 2014.’”

Diana Tisnado, associate professor of health science, and graduate student Katelynn Peirce ‘14 (B.S. health science), are among co-authors of “Assessing Associations Between Symptoms and Survivorship Care Plans Among Long-Term Cancer Survivors,” presented at the Oct. 9-10 American Society of Clinical Oncology/American Association of Hospice and Palliative Medicine “Palliative Care in Oncology Symposium” in Boston.
