Cal State Fullerton President Mildred García, who served as the first systemwide president of Berkeley College, will be this year’s commencement speaker at the East Coast college and receive an honorary doctor of pedagogy April 29.
García served as CEO of the institution from 2001-2007. She became president of CSUF in 2012 after five years at Cal State Dominguez Hills. García has been a member on the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics and the U.S. Department of Education’s Committee on Measures of Student Success.
A first-generation college student, García earned a doctor of education and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Columbia University, Teachers College, as well as a master’s degree in business education/higher education from New York University and a bachelor of science in business education from Baruch College, City University of New York.
