Language, art and reading are front and center Saturday, June 18, with bilingual poetry reading and bookmaking at Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana.
Antena language collaborative and cog*nate collective invite campus and community members to attend the festivities, which begin at 4 p.m. with a cartonera book workshop — a form of creating books by using recycled materials — with Jhonnatan Curiel of Kodama Cartonera of Tijuana and Adriana Sánchez Alexander and Chilo Te from Santa Ana’s Santarera/Travieso Press.
A program of poetry read in Spanish and English, featuring the work of poets Rocio Carlos and Rachel Kaminar of Los Angeles, Jhonnatan Curiel of Tijuana and Adriana Sánchez Alexander and Chil Te of Santa Ana, follows from 6:30-8 p.m.
Jhonnatan Curiel also will facilitate a cartonera-making workshop and read selections of his poetry from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at the Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet.
In addition to the June 18 activities, Grand Central Art Center presents “Recordings of an Immigrant” a showcase of works by Vincent A. Goudreau and Juan Aquino that runs through July 10. Also on exhibit is “Antenamóvil,” featuring works by Antena and Jorge Galván Flores.
