Stephanie Vaughn, professor of nursing and director of the School of Nursing, was elected the 2016-17 president of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. The scholar researches stroke prevention behaviors and caregiver needs for the Latino population and has been a member of the association for more than 27 years.
Leslie Chen, a graduate student studying communicative disorders and president of the CSUF chapter of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, was selected for the 2016 Minority Student Leadership Program of the ASHA. The leadership program is designed to recruit and retain students from underrepresented groups historically absent in the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology. As many as 40 students are selected annually to participate in the leadership program at the ASHA Convention — gaining leadership skills and networking opportunities with working professionals. This year’s convention will be held Nov. 17-19 in Philadelphia.
