The College of Humanities and Social Sciences recently received approval for the departmental name change from Comparative Religion to Department of Religious Studies. The change, was approved by the Academic Senate Oct. 27, and is effective immediately.
The change was proposed in December 2015 and is a reversion to the department’s original name and a name more common at other state universities and colleges. It better reflects the curricular and professional mission of the department, corresponds with the CSU-designated title of the academic degree program in religious studies and removes the confusion as to the name of the major and department, Sheryl Fontaine, dean of the college, wrote in a June memo supporting the name change.
