Cal State Fullerton President Mildred García, on Tuesday, approved changing the communicative disorders program to the new Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
The Communicative Disorders program is part of the Department of Human Communication Studies, which has two independent degree programs — communicative disorders and communication studies. The new Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders will administer the existing bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communicative disorders and the appropriate licenses and credentials.
The new department name was proposed in October by HyeKyeung Seung, professor of human communications and the coordinator of the communicative disorders program. The new name better reflects the identity, nature and curriculum of the communicative disorders program and the new department’s distinction from communication studies, said Ed Fink, acting dean of the College of Communications. The department’s name officially changes July 1, Fink said.
