The Cal State Fullerton campus community turned out Thursday morning to give the Titan softball team a sendoff as they head west to play Texas State in the NCAA Regional, hosted by UCLA.
The Titans captured a third straight Big West Conference title over the weekend defeating UC Riverside and will play Friday against Texas State in the first game of the Los Angeles Regional at Easton Stadium on the campus of UCLA.
Faculty, staff, parents, fans, coaches and community leaders including Fullerton Mayor Doug Chafee gathered at Brynes Circle, adjacent to the softball field, to wish the girls well.
“We are very proud of you,” President Fram Virjee told the team before they boarded their bus. “You guys are going to terrify the Texans and after that your are going to ruin the Bruins … You are ambassadors for the school and Titans forever.”
Athletic Director Jim Donovan gave the team a glimpse of what their future could be on Sunday.
“I just want you to visualize this, the absolute silence in that stadium when you beat UCLA and move on to the Super Regionals,” Donovan told the team. “Our fans will be cheering along with you. You can make it happen; you are that good.”
ESPN3 (WatchESPN) will broadcast Fullerton’s game against Texas. ESPN’s family of networks will televise the rest of the games over the weekend. Check your local listings.
