The Titans are in the NCAA Super Regional this weekend after defeating No. 2 national seed Stanford Sunday to win the Regional Championship for the second straight year.
The team advances to its 14th Super Regional in program history, which is second most all-time behind Florida State (16). The NCAA will annouce the Super Regional sites.
Several heroes emerged over the weekend that helped the Titans advance including two freshmen. Sunday’s starting pitcher freshman Tanner Bibee was stellar, striking out 11 batters and only giving up five hits and two runs.
On Saturday, freshman Jace “Jumbo” Chamberlin hit a solo blast in the ninth inning to deep center field that bounced off the scoreboard and gave the Titans a 2-1 victory over Stanford.
Not to be outdone, right fielder Ruben Cardenas hit a three-run homerun Sunday that gave the Titans all the runs they would need to win and advance to the Super Regional.
“I’m trying to do anything I can for my team to help us win,” Cardenas, a junior told Titan Athletics after the game. “We deserve this … It’s all in our hands. We are playing with house money, and as long as we stay together and play Titan baseball, we will be just fine.”
