50 Years After Olympic Protest, Tommie Smith Tells Students to Continue Fight for Social Justice

Tommie Smith, the gold medal winner from the 1968 Mexico City Summer Olympics,  who along with fellow Olympian, John Carlos, raised their gloved fist during the playing of the national anthem and became a symbol in the fight for social justice, spoke to students at the conclusion of a debate competition at Cal State Fullerton.

Jon Bruschke, department chair for human communication studies, introduced the guest speaker saying,  “there are not many times in your life you will be able to greet a person who has literally changed the course of history on a global stage.”
