Cal State Fullerton is top-ranked in California and third in the nation for awarding bachelor’s degrees to underrepresented students in all disciplines, according to rankings in Diverse: Issues in Higher Education’s Top 100 Degree Producers list.
The university ranks fourth in the nation for undergraduate degrees awarded to Hispanic students in all disciplines, and fourth in the nation for master’s degrees to underrepresented students in communication disorders sciences and services.
The publication bases its rankings on the total number of degrees awarded to minority students across all disciplines as well as specific majors. The percentage of the university’s total minority groups, or underrepresented students graduating with bachelor’s degrees climbed 6 percent from data collected in 2017-18 and recorded in 2018-19 preliminary data figures collected by the U.S. Department of Education. Last year, CSUF ranked first in the state and second in the nation.
First Nationally
CSUF achieved notable firsts in bachelor’s degrees awarded to all minority groups combined or “total minority” – the term used by the publication – as well as specific minority groups based on majors:
- Total minority students — communications, journalism and related programs
- Total minority students — parks, recreation, leisure and fitness studies
- Two or more races — communications, journalism and related programs
- Asian Americans — communication disorders, sciences and services
- Asian Americans — communications, journalism and related programs

For graduate degrees awarded, the university garnered a second-place in the nation for the number of history degrees awarded to Asian Americans, and third place in the nation for the number of communication disorders sciences and services degrees awarded to Asian American students.
CSUF ranks fifth in the nation for awarding master’s degrees in mathematics and statistics to Hispanics.
