CSUF’s Animation Program Earns Top-Tier National and Statewide Rankings

Cal State Fullerton’s entertainment art and animation program ranks ninth among the nation’s public schools and colleges, and at No. 11 in California in the 2021 Animation School Rankings released on Jan. 27 by Animation Career Review.

This is the 10th annual rankings for animation offered by Animation Career Review, an online resource for aspiring professionals in animation, game design, graphic design, digital art and related fields.

Cal State Fullerton’s College of the Arts program rankings are:

No. 9 in the Top 40 nationally among public schools and colleges 

No. 30 in the Top 50 nationally 

No. 12 in the Top 20 on the West Coast 

No. 11 in the Top 20 in California 

No. 25 in the Top 50 nationally among schools offering an animation-related bachelor of fine arts degree

Nearly 200 animation and illustration schools nationwide were surveyed and considered. The criteria included each program’s academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of faculty, tuition value and student indebtedness, graduation rates, location and graduates’ employment data.

CSUF’s College of the Arts and its Department of Visual Arts offer a bachelor of fine arts degree in art with an entertainment art/animation concentration, and a bachelor of fine arts, master of arts and a master of fine arts degree in illustration.

Graduates of CSUF’s entertainment art/animation program work at a variety of entertainment and publishing companies, such as Blizzard Entertainment, Cartoon Network, DreamWorks SKG, EA Games, Lucasfilm Ltd., Marvel Entertainment, Nickelodeon, Top Shelf Productions and The Walt Disney Co.

Department of Visual Arts faculty member Carol Ashley recently completed the 30-day “Unreal Fellowship” for virtual production, offered by Epic Games.
